I arrived in Japan in 2011, the year of the great tsunami. I worked as a ski-lift attendant in Iwatake, where I met my wife working on the same ski lift, and we quickly became close while sharing long shifts and snowy evenings.

私が日本に来たのは、あの大津波が起きた2011年のことでした。岩手県でスキーリフトの係員として働いていた時、同じリフトで働いていた妻と出会い、長い勤務時間や雪の降る夜を共に過ごすうちに、すぐに親しくなりました。

After the season ended we both moved to Nagano, and later got married. My wife began working at the local hospital while I opened an English school. After a few years we decided to settle in Hakuba, moving there in 2015. We first lived in a lodge in Donguri, which proved challenging because it sat halfway up the mountain, but the view was absolutely stunning. Soon after we adopted our Cavalier King Charles, Revy, and not long after that our first child surprised us and prompted us to look for a more permanent home. At the end of 2017 we moved to Shiojima, and about a month after we moved in our first child, Yukito, was born. Later our second child, Ayato, arrived, and then yet another — Rikuto — was born, making life hectic and often exhausting, but also wonderfully full of joy.

シーズンが終わった後、私たちは二人とも長野に移り住み、その後結婚しました。妻は地元の病院で働き始め、私は英語学校を開校しました。数年後、白馬に定住することを決め、2015年に引っ越しました。最初は「どんぐり」というロッジに住んでいましたが、山の中腹に位置していたため生活は大変でしたが、景色はまさに絶景でした。その後まもなく、キャバリア・キング・チャールズ・スパニエルのレヴィを家族に迎え、その少し後に第一子が誕生したことで、より定住しやすい家を探すことになりました。2017年の終わりに塩島へ引っ越し、入居して約1ヶ月後に長男のユキトが生まれました。その後、次男のアヤトが生まれ、さらに三男のリクトも誕生し、生活は慌ただしく疲れ果てることも多いですが、同時に素晴らしい喜びに満ち溢れています。
